Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch Overview
Display and Design
Starting with the design, we should know that this is the first 14-inch MacBook Pro by Apple. It flaunts a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with mini-LED backlights that attains 1600 nits of maximum brightness. The MacBook Pro weighs 3.5 pounds while it embeds a thickness of 15.5mm. Further, the aluminum used in the chassis is 100% recycled. It also has a tiny bathtub-like notch above the screen which leads to the small bezels around the edges.
The 120Hz ProMotion helps to adjust the refresh rate based on the content you are viewing on the screen. It has 5.9 million pixels on the screen which exceeds the 16-inch MacBook pro. Moreover, it has physical Function keys and a wider Escape key in place of the Touch Bar.
Performance
Moving on to the performance, there are two options you can choose from – M1 Pro and M1 Max. The former double the transistors from last year’s M1 chip while integrating a faster 8 – 10-core CPU and 14 – 16-core GPU. It maxes out at 32GB of unified memory with 200GB/s of bandwidth. Moreover, it improvises from the M1 chip by 70% over CPU performance and 100% over GPU.
Likewise, the latter, M1 Max doubles its features to 64GB and 400GB/s respectively. There are 24 – 32-core graphics cores alongside 4096 execution units and a 10-core CPU. Lastly, the laptop has two active fans with an improved design which leads to 50% better airflow even if the fan speed is at its lowest.
macOS Monterey
Apple features the new version of macOS which brings out the most from the chips. The macOS Monterey also gets FaceTime, AirPlay, Live Text, and Visual Lookup and all the apps from mac runs natively.
There are over 10,000 universal apps and plug-ins in the macOS Monterey. The other apps run on the base of Intel x86 architecture. They get help from Apple’s Rosetta 2 translator.
Rest of the Specs
Fueling the device is a battery cell with 17 hours of endurance which is very impressive. It also has fast charging support. You can charge the whole laptop in an hour. The MagSafe charger comes along with the laptop. As for ports, there are three Thunderbolt 4/USB Type-C, an HDMI, an SD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The webcam integrates 1080p resolution with a wide aperture and a superior sensor. Further, there is a six-speaker sound system with 2 tweeters and 4 force-canceling woofers.
