OnePlus 9R: The cheapest smartphone on the 9 series

OnePlus 9R is the last and the cheapest one in the OnePlus 9 series. The OnePlus 9R price in Nepal is expected to be around NPR 70,000 – NPR 80,000. Let’s dig in the specs offered by the brand in this smartphone and let’s also see what makes it different from the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.

Design and Display

OnePlus 9R flaunts a 6.55-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has HDR10+ resolution with 1080×2400-pixel quality and 402 PPI density which boasts an aspect ratio of 20:9. Like the other two models in the 9 series, this one is also protected by corning gorilla glass 5 on both the front and back sides of the aluminum frame.

The body weighs 189g within the dimension of 161×74.1×8.4mm. This phone has a punch-hole selfie camera setup on the right part of the front side and a squarish camera bump on the back. Moreover, the color options are Carbon Black and Lake Blue.

Performance and Memory

Unlike the high-end versions of the OnePlus 9 series, this one doesn’t come with the Snapdragon 888 but a comparatively low powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G based on a 7nm chipset. The CPU consists of a 3.2GHz, three 2.42GHz, and four 1.80GHz Kryo 585 cortices who are teamed up with the Adreno 650 GPU. Every factor of the processor depart is downgraded by a level or two. But still, this should give a very excellent performance experience.

However, the features available are Dual-LED flash, HDR, and panorama only but not the Hasselblad Color Calibration system as in the other 9 series smartphones. Similarly, there is only the support of a 4K video shoot at 30/60fps whereas the other had an 8K video support system.

Moving to the selfie shooter, there is a 16MP lens with f/2.4 aperture which can shoot 1080p video at the rate of 30 frames per second. The gyro-EIS is prevalent in this model as well. This enhances the video quality.

The sound factor is no different as well. There are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack for music or FM radio.

Battery and Extras

Backing up the device is a 4,500mAh lithium polymer cell that supports 65W fast charging. The brand claims a full charge of 1% in just 39 minutes. The charging is done via a USB Type-C 3.1 port which can also be used for data transfer purposes.

For biometrics, there is an under-display optical fingerprint sensor and of course, the old-fashioned face unlocks. Other sensors include an accelerometer, gyro meter, proximity, and compass. Moreover, the connectivity depart is handled by the Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS), and an NFC.
