As an alternative to folding phones, Oppo X 2021 is the company’s new Rollable Concept Handset. In their recent event, OPPO INNO DAY 2020, the company has introduced us with their concept idea, giving a glimpse of its look. The same event also introduced other new concepts like Oppo AR Glass 2021, Oppo CybeReal, and other new interaction between future technologies.
Rollable Concept Handset Overview
The uniqueness of this Rollable Concept Handset, Oppo X 2021 is that it comes with a minimum of 6.7-inch OLED display that is expandable up to 7.4-inch, as per user’s desire. The width of the screen varies from 70mm at the minimum to 107mm when fully expanded. So instead of your screen folding, it rolls out smoothly with seamless effects.
The Roll Motor powertrain is supported by a firm internal structure. The two-in-one plate supports the screen without any segmental gaps. And on retraction, the two plates come together, forming a single screen. With this, Oppo has resolved the issue of the crease on the screen that was often bothered to folding phone users.
Moreover, Oppo’s self-developed Wrap Track technology laminates a 0.1mm protection layer to the display from sudden thrust. Hence, this makes expansion and retraction flexible and durable
Since this is a new design, the device has to go through lots of changes to its structure and screen. Consequently, the device has redesigned stacking, adjustment of antenna, cooling, and the layout of the lens. For instance, it uses a frame-within-frame design. It allows components like its battery to stay in place without giving dirt or other particles a chance to get inside the system.
Oppo X 2021 availability
However, except for the concept of Oppo X 2021, the company has not provided further details about the device. The company’s VP Levin Liu, in the event, said that he would like to release Oppo X 2021 “at the right time”. We can assume that the Rollable Concept Handset is only a concept until now.
