Microsoft has now announced a second installment on its dual-screen phone named Surface Duo 2. The overall design and features are almost the same as its predecessor. Display and Design

Beginning with the design, Microsoft Surface Duo 2 flaunts two separate AMOLED panels interconnected by a hinge. The display is 5.8-inches attaining an 8.3-inch diagonal measure. Both screens have 100% DCI-P3 coverage and a 90% of refresh rate. The screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. A small part of the screen is visible with closed hinges since both displays are curved at inner edges. This helps you peek at your notifications, charging status, and calls.

Moving on, the device supports each generation of Surface Slim Pen including the new Slim pen 2. But, users must buy the pen separately. The weight is however lessened than the previous dual-screen phone from Microsoft. The total weight is just 284 grams. There are two color options available for the model – Obsidian and Glacier.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. The processor is based on a 5nm manufacturing process. This is a nice upgrade from the Snapdragon 855 of its predecessor. This chipset integrates a 5G modem and supports 18 5G bands.

On the memory aspect, there is an 8GB LPDDR5 RAM option with 128, 256, and 512GB internal storage respectively. Lastly, the device accepts Nano-SIM while also keeps space for eSIM.

Software

The Microsoft Surface Duo 2 runs on Android 11. You can use two apps simultaneously and can launch both with a single click. Microsoft has claimed over 150 games for the dual-screen phone. The most notable thing is that you can expand the map on one screen while the gameplay happens on other for the games like Asphalt 9.

Moreover, there are Disney+, TikTok, Kindle, ESPN, and other similar apps making full use of dual-screen phones.

Camera

Talking about the optical part, there is a triple camera setup at the rear panel of the device. This is upgraded because of criticism they faced after last time. It has a 12MP primary sensor with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). Another is a 16MP ultra-wide lens accompanied by a 12MP telephoto camera. The latter gives 2x of optical zoom and OIS as well. Upfront, there is a 12MP front-facing camera with dual-LED flash.

Fueling the device is a medium 4,499mAh dual-cell battery with 23W fast charging. The charging happens via USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. However, the device lacks the support for wireless charging.

The Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and NF handles the wireless connectivity of the Surface Duo 2 while biometrics is handled by the fingerprint scanner integrated on the power button.
