MIUI 12 Features
Some of the highlighted features of MIUI 12 are Dark Mode 2.0, Enhanced Always-On Display, Privacy Enhancements, New Features in the Camera App, Gesture Navigation, Screen Time & Focus Mode, In-built Video Editor and so on. Let’s discuss the new features of MIUI 12.
1. Dark Mode 2.0
The biggest update here is system-wide dark mode. The new dark mode has many features including font adjustment based on on the mode whether light mode or dark mode and wallpaper dimming. Firstly introduced on iPhone’s wallpaper dimming is now available for the Xiaomi devices running MIUI 12. Wallpaper dimming is a feature that will darken the wallpaper at night. Apart from that, the dark mode works over 42 system app, 20 mainstream apps and many other 3rd party apps.
2. Enhanced Always-On Display
Always-On Display (AOD) is the handiest feature if you are comfortable with the increase in battery usage. AOD enable users to see the information’s like date & time, weather, notifications when the device is locked. It’s already available on some Xiaomi devices so whats new in this update? users will be able to facilitate themself with their desired information on the AOD. In this new update, Xiaomi has added 3rd party support for the AOD animations along with 1000 3rd party animations included
3. Privacy Enhancement
Concerned with the privacy of your data? Xiaomi has self-developed and open-sourced the MACE (Mobile AI Compute Engine) framework which deals with all your data on the device itself. We are prompted with Audio, microphone, call history, contacts, messages, files, locations and many other permissions while installing apps. With the new privacy enhancement feature on the MIUI 12 update, every app’s behaviour will be recorded and users data will be more protected if any suspicious behaviour encountered.
4. New Features in the Camera App
Following the added features on MIUI 12, the camera app now supports the custom function layout giving the user ability to keep the desired camera options at forefront. Users can keep up to 10 options on the front with a minimum of 2 camera options. Along with that, the Camera App now supports color customization resulting users to choose their desired color options. What’s more? The camera app will enable users to change the sound of the camera shutter button.
5. Gesture Navigation
Gesture Navigation was the feature introduced along with Android 10 but was not introduced to the Android 10 based MIUI 11. Android 10 gestures are available on bets versions of MIUI and it may finally be seen in the new update. Like Android 10, users can see a thin gesture navigation bar at the bottom. If this feature is bundled with MIUI 12, then switching apps will be more convenient just a swipe from left to right or vice versa. Along with that, we can expect some changes in the recent apps page as well as the animation of opening apps.
6. Screen Time & Focus Mode
Following the leaks, we can expect a similar feature like digital wellbeing in the new update. In the MIUI 12 leak, we have already seen some design changes in Screen Time such as shown in graph form, separate tabs for app usage and Focus Mode. A focus mode helps the user to focus for a specific time by locking the user’s device which disables everything such as notifications, applications and so on. User can set a specific time for using the focus mode.
7. In-built Video Editor
Currently, the in-built video editor is only available on the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. Xiaomi launched this feature on MIUI 11. Video Editor feature includes crop videos, reverse playback, apply filters, Video editing features such as cutting, stitching and playback speed. It provides a decent environment for them who use their smartphones for video editing. Looking at these features we can expect it to be bundled with the upcoming MIUI 12 update.
