Samsung Galaxy S10 : What’s more than a punchhole camera?

After a decade with S series, Samsung has announced 3 flagship phones namely Galaxy S10, S10+ & S10e. Among these, S10 is middle ordered, feature packed device. S10 is a masterpiece of tech from Samsung with fewer flaws in it.

Design

The handset has upgraded features than that of S9 and Note 9 in terms of performance, design, camera, and display. For the first time, Samsung has announced the punch-hole display on the AMOLED panel with 87.5% screen to body ratio and an ultra-sonic fingerprint sensor beneath the screen. S10 comprises of latest and greatest hardware tech and new software experience. With the Gorilla Glass 6 protection on the screen, the handset is likely to withstand drops from small heights without any damage to the phone. The front and back of the phone are glass both are made up of Gorilla Glass 6.  Also, the phone comes in 4 new color option: Prism Green, Prism Blue, Prism White, and Prism Black.

Display

Samsung’s display is concerned as the best in the mobile market. It is a 6.1 inch AMOLED panel with 19:9 aspect ratio. The screen is one of the brightest screens which can go up to ~750 NITs and has a pixel density of 551 PPI so the screen offers great viewing experience for playing games, and watching videos and other contents. A small hole is there at the top-right corner of the phone for the front camera and curved edges can be also seen at both side of the display as in Galaxy S9.

Camera

One of the greatest features of S series is its camera. S10 has a front selfie camera which is an 8MP sensor and triple cameras on the back of the phone as the main camera. The cameras are aligned horizontally and these cameras help to take really good photos. Among these 3 cameras, one is 12MP Telephoto Camera, another is 12MP Telephoto Camera and the last one is 16MP Ultra-wide Camera. The photos are clear and color contrast are more accurate as compared to Galaxy S10 and Note 9. One of the interesting fact about the camera is that it is able to take 0.4 seconds super slow-mo videos at 960 fps and 0.8 seconds super slow-mo videos at 480fps.

Moreover, capturing 4K videos is also possible, provides super steady video recording mode that helps record smooth and stabilized videos and the phone features Instagram mode, from where one can directly capture Instagram stories from the camera application. The addition of the third lens serves as an ultra-wide lens that can take wide photos and videos. It is a cool new feature of this device. Furthermore, the camera app provides AR Emoji feature. It is a nice entertaining feature where one can animate their own character.

Processor

Galaxy S10 is equipped with Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9 (9820) depending upon the region. Both are similar in performance speed. The chip is an octa-core processor whose speed is determined at 2.73 GHz. For the graphics card, Mali-G76 MP12 is used which is great for the mobile graphics card. This phone can easily handle some serious kinds of stuff with this powerful hardware. Talking about the software, this phone runs on software Samsung One UI which is based on latest android software i.e. Android 9.0(Pie). Samsung One UI is more user-friendly and handy so tasks can be done easily. There is a feature of dark mode which can be great for AMOLED panel as it saves power and provides a pleasing environment to the eyes during the night.

Extra

Samsung has approached a new technology for scanning the fingerprint sensor. It is based on Ultrasonic technology where a 3D picture is used to detect the fingerprint. Also, it detects fingerprint even if the finger is wet. Also, facial unlock is provided but it is not accurate and secure as the fingerprint sensor. The S10 offers a tray that holds both SIM (Nano-sized) and a microSD card. The external storage can be expanded up to 512 GB. The base model of S10 comes with 8 GB of RAM which is a healthy amount to run multiple apps.

Samsung Galaxy S10 has a 3400mAh Lithium-ion non-removable battery. The battery is fairly enough to power the device for full day use on a single charge. It supports fast charging and a fast charging adapter is provided within the phone. Talking about a new, cool feature, S10 offers reverse wireless charging for charging smartwatches, air pods, and even other phones wirelessly. The phone is IP68 waterproof rated i.e. the phone can be submerged in 1.5m water for 30 minutes. At the side of the body, there exists a dedicated Bixby button. This time this button can be customized as it was not possible in the previous generation phones. It can be used to open the application or to access Google Assistance. For connectivity NFC, Bluetooth, 3G, 2G, VoLTE is supported. For charging and transferring data USB type C is used and there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack which is nice for connecting headphones.
