Asus Rog 5s: The new smartphone taking your gaming experience to next level

Asus has finally unveiled a new smartphone – the Asus Rog 5s. This is the first phone to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus. Here, we will look at the specs, features, availability, and the expected price of Asus Rog 5s in Nepal.

Display and Design

Asus Rog 5s flaunts a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. It boasts around one billion colors and had an HDR10+ resolution of 1080×2448 pixels. The screen has a peak brightness of 1200 nits and typical brightness of 800 nits. Further, the 82.0% screen-to-body ratio is accompanied by the 395 PPI density.

The handset weighs 238 grams within the dimension of 172.8×77.3×9.9mm. The screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus while the back has Glass 3 inside the aluminum frame. Moreover, there resides an RGB light panel on the rear part alongside some Pressure sensitive zones as Gaming Triggers.  There are two color options available for the Asus Rog 5s – Phantom Black and Storm White.

Performance and Memory

Powering the device is Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888 Plus based on a 5nm manufacturing process. Point to be noted, Asus Rog 5s is the phone via which the processor debuted in the market. It has an octa-core (1×2.99 GHz Kryo 680 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 680 & 4×1.80 GHz Kryo 680) CPU teamed up with Adreno 660 graphics processor.

As per memory, there are four configurations – 8/128GB, 12/128GB, 12/256GB, and 16/256GB of UFS 3.1 respectively. The internal memory can not be expanded because the model lacks a microSD card slot. On the software front, there is Android 11 on top of the Rog UI.

Camera and Sound

Under the hood, Asus Rog 5s packs a triple camera setup with a 64MP primary lens of f/1.8 aperture. It has 0.8 microns capacity and sports PDAF features. Besides, there is a 13MP ultrawide sensor of 125 degrees field of view and f/2.4 aperture. Completing the setup is a 5MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture for macro shots. The module also holds a LED flash and records the video up to 8K resolution at the rate of 30 frames per second in gyro-EIS mode.

Moving on, there is a 24MP front-facing camera above the screen. It has an f/2.5 aperture and 0.9 microns pixels capacity. It can record the video at 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.

If we talk about sound, there are DTS:X stereo speakers with two dedicated amplifiers. The phone also houses a 3.5mm headphone jack while it radiates the sound quality of 24-bit/192kHz.

Battery and Extras

Fueling the device is a massive Lithium Polymer battery of 6,000mAh size. Asus provides the model with 65W fast charging which can fill the juice from 0 to 70% in just 30 minutes. But if you want the full charge – 100%, you can have it in 52 minutes. Further, it also supports 10W reverse charging, Power delivery 3.0, and Quick Charge 5. There are two USB Type-C connectors on the handset – one 3.2 on the side and the other 2.0 at the bottom. Any one of them can be used for charging or data transfer.

For Biometrics, there is an under-display fingerprint sensor that is very sensible and accurate. Other additional sensors are an accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass. Likewise, there is Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, QZSS, GNSS), and NFC for wireless connectivity.

In Taiwan, the official price of the model is NTD 29,990 for the 16/256GB variant. If it ever enters here, the Asus Rog 5s price in Nepal would be around NPR 1,35,000 for the same one.
