Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus goes official; debuting in ASUS’s new ROG phone

Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is the top-rated processor of the present time. It is found in most of the flagship phones in 2020-2021. And now, the company has upgraded the processor with more powerful CPU cores and better AI engines. It goes by the name of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus. Let’s see its upgrades and downgrades from the standard version.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus Overview

Performance

The biggest upgrade from the standard Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is that it has a bigger CPU core. It now uses the Kryo 680 CPU cores. This is teamed up with the 6th Generation Artificial Intelligence engine with Hexagon 780 processor. Its speed is going to be clocked at 3GHz within 64-bit architecture.

In addition, there is a second-generation Sensing Hub. This has a dedicated low-power always-on AI processor. This enhances intelligent assistance and contextual awareness. It is going to have a chipset based on a 5nm manufacturing process.

There are 32 Tera Operations that can be carried out in a second in the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus. Previously, the standard Snapdragon 888 Plus had only 26 TOPS. Moreover, there is Adreno 660 graphics processor accompanied by a Snapdragon X60 modem for 5G connectivity. It has approximately 7.5Gbps download speed.

Optics

Further, there is Qualcomm’s in-house 580 ISP to enable the concurrent optical shots. This is possible with parallel processing via 2.7 gigapixels per second. That can result in up to three 28MP photos and three 4K videos at one time. It can burst pictures at 120 frames per second with a 12MP lens.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus will also pack the AI-based Autofocus and Auto exposure feature. There will be 4K HDR support with computational HDR capture. In addition, it can capture night shots with low-light architecture in a very clear texture.

Gaming

As for gaming, it has Snapdragon Elite Gaming Features with variable rate shading. This will sky-rocket the graphics performance. Also, there is a Qualcomm Game Quick Touch which enhances the responsive level of the display panel. Further, there are updatable drivers which will give you real-time graphics updates and performance improvements.
