Xiaomi has officially unveiled the gaming version of the Redmi K50 which is also the flagship model for the year 2022. This is the first phone in the K50 series and is now expected to launch on February 18. Here, we will look at the specs, features, availability, and the expected price of Xiaomi Redmi K50 Gaming in Nepal.
Xiaomi Redmi K50 Gaming Overview
To start with, the new Xiaomi Redmi K50 Gaming flaunts a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate. It supports HDR10+ contents, has received DisplayMate A+ certification, and the pixel density measures 395. Above the screen, there is a circular punch-hole cutout that holds the front-facing camera.
Likewise, the screen gets its protection from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. It also has a DCI-P3 color gamut and a 1920Hz high-frequency Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) that reduces the discomfort caused by strobes on the eyes in low-brightness situations.
The phone weighs 210 grams while the dimension remains 162.5×76.7×8.5mm. The frame is made up of metal – aluminum while the back part of the phone is finished with AG glass. It also has physical magnetic pop-up triggers on the right frame. These are “Magnetic Shoulder Key 2.0” which are claimed to give us a similar feel to that of professional gamepads. There is an X-shaped pattern that looks very premium. The LED strips inside the camera module light up every time you receive a notification.
There are four color options available for the device – Black, Gray, Blue, and AMG. The last one is a Special Edition that was built in the collaboration with the Mercedes-AMG F1 team and has a grey finish. There is a difference in terms of design as well. Two stripes run along the middle of the rear panel and a Mercedes F1 logo resides on the top-right corner.
Performance and Memory
Powering the device is Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset as we can expect on a new generation gaming smartphone. This is a processor-based on 4nm fabrication process which integrates an octa-core (1×3.00 GHz Cortex-X2 & 3×2.50 GHz Cortex-A710 & 4×1.80 GHz Cortex-A510) CPU. Further, the graphics depart is handled by none other than Adreno 730 processor.
As per memory, there are three configurations – 8/128GB, 12/128GB, and 12/256GB of UFS 3.1. Unfortunately, you can’t expand your internal storage since there is no microSD card slot. On the software front, K50 Gaming runs on Android 12 on top of MIUI 13.
There are dual vapor chambers covering an area of 4,860 sq. mm. These chambers transfer heat from the chipset, battery, and IC to its heat spreaders. Xiaomi claims to have 20% more efficiency than the last-gen here. You can also buy Redmi’s own metal heat dissipation magnetic shell which leads to even better thermal management.
Under the hood, there is a triple camera setup on a rectangular module lying on the rear panel of K50 Gaming. It has a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and PDAF support, an 8MP ultrawide snapper with a 120-degree field of view, and finally a 2MP lens for macro shots. The module also holds a Dual-LED flash for better night shots which also light up every time you receive a notification. Further, the module has a flicker sensor that helps us in real-time exposure maintenance. It can shoot up to 4K videos at the rate of 30/60 frames per second.
Upfront, there is a 20MP selfie shooter with a Sony INX596 sensor inside the punch-hole cutout. It can also shoot up to 1080p videos at 30/60 frames per second.
Moving on to the audio, there are four stereo speakers (one-one speaker and tweeter combo on each side) which are tuned by JBL with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio. It emits 24-bit/192kHz audio and is the first phone in the world with a CyberEngine ultra-wideband X-axis vibration motor. This is also the largest haptics motor on an Android smartphone.
Battery and Extras
Fueling the device is a medium Li-Po 4,700 battery with 120W fast charging support. According to Xiaomi, the battery will get a 0-100% charge in just 17 minutes. It also has support for Power Deliver 3.0 and Quick Charge 3+. For biometrics, there is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner which is a little bit of disappointment since for this price range it could have been an under-display sensor.
Other sensors include an accelerometer, gyro, compass, and color spectrum. Furthermore, there is Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS [A-GPS, Up to tri-band: GLONASS (1), BDS (3), GALILEO (2), QZSS (2), NavIC], an infrared blaster, and NFC support.
