Xiaomi Redmi has now unveiled two new smartphones – K50 and K50 Pro in its gaming lineup. The phone has started sale in the Chinese market and we are still unclear if it will get inside the global market. However, there is no harm in discussing the estimated price of the Redmi K50 in Nepal. Alongside the price, we will also talk about the specs, features, and availability of the model.
Redmi K50 Overview
Display and Design
Let’s begin with the display size of the new Redmi K50 which measures 6.67-inch with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 480Hz. It is an OLED display with a 3200×1440-pixel resolution and 1200nits of peak brightness level. It supports HDR10+ content and has Dolby Vision followed by an 8-bit panel that comes with DCI-P3 coverage. Likewise, the screen gets its protection from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
K50 Pro is available in four color options – Black, Gray, Blue, and Green. The whole body is made up of glass where we know the front one and we are yet unknown about the back. It is IP53 rated for dust and splash resistivity. There is a dimension of 163.1×76.2×8.5mm and it weighs just 201 grams.
Performance and Memory
Powering the device is MediaTek Dimensity 8100 based on a 5nm manufacturing process. It brings an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A78 (@2.85GHz) and four Cortex-A55 (@2.0GHz) cores. Likewise, the graphics depart is handled by Arm’s Mali-GG610.
Since this is a gaming laptop, there is a VC liquid-cooling and a 7-layer graphite surface for cooling purposes. It ships with the same VC cooling technology we saw earlier on the K50 Gaming Edition.
As per memory, there are three different configurations – 8/128GB, 8/256GB, and 12/256GB of UFS 3.1. Unfortunately, you can no longer expand your internal storage since there is no microSD card slot. Over to the software front, the phone boots on Android 12 on top of MIUI 13.
Camera and Audio
Under the hood, there is a triple camera setup on the back of the Redmi K50 Pro. It has a 48MP IMX582 primary lens with 0.8-microns pixel capacity, a 1/1.2” sensor, and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Further, there is an 8MP ultrawide lens with a 119-degree field of view. Completing the setup is a 2MP camera for macro shots. They can record videos up to 4K resolution at 30 frames per second followed by 1080p (@30/60/120fps) and 720p (@960fps) with gyro-EIS.
Moving on, there is a 20MP front-facing camera for selfies on the device. It is limited to shooting 1080p videos at 30/120 frames per second. Here, the back camera is accompanied by a Dual-LED dual-tone flash for better night shots.
For audio, there is a loudspeaker system with stereo speakers that tunes out 24-bit/192kHz audio. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack for music and calls.
Battery and Extras
Fueling the phone is a non-removable Li-Po 5,500mAh single battery cell with 67W fast charging. It comes with Xiaomi’s own in-house Surge P1 chip and a compatible Power Delivery 3.0 charger. It can charge your phone from 0 to 80% in just 30 minutes. Further, it has the support of Quick Charge 3+.
The device ships with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometrics which comes alongside a software-based face unlock. Other sensors include an accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and color spectrum.
Lastly, the connectivity options list out as Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS (A-GPS, up to tri-band: GLONASS (1), BDS (3), GALILEO (2), QZSS (2), NavIC), NFC, an infrared blaster, and a USB Type-C 2.0 for charging and data transfer purpose.
