Samsung Galaxy S22 Overview
Display and Design
The new Samsung Galaxy S22 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1300nits of peak brightness. You can also boost your touch sampling rate up to 240Hz in gaming mode. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ and has Vision Booster technology to manage the light intensity based on your surroundings. Further, it is IP68 certified against water and dust. This means it can survive up to 1.5m of water for 30 minutes.
Not only the screen but even the back panel gets its protection from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. Likewise, the frame is made from aluminum which leads the weight of the phone to be around 168 grams. It measures 146×70.6×7.6mm in dimension and is available in eight color options – Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, Pink Gold, Graphite, Sky Blue, Violet, and Cream. Here, the last four colors are Samsung.com’s exclusive options.
Performance and Memory
Under the hood, there are two processors on the device which depends on the region you are in. For the Europe version, it is powered up with Exynos 2200 chipset based on a 4nm manufacturing process. It integrates an octa-core (1×2.8 GHz Cortex-X2 & 3×2.50 GHz Cortex-A710 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A510) CPU with Xclipse 920 graphics processor.
For the rest of the world, you can get Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 processor based on a 4nm manufacturing process. There is an octa-core (1×3.00 GHz Cortex-X2 & 3×2.40 GHz Cortex-A710 & 4×1.70 GHz Cortex-A510) CPU accompanied by Adreno 730 graphics processor.
As per memory, both models come in two memory configurations – 8/128GB and 8/256GB of UFS 3.1. However, the Nepali market received only the latter. You can not expand your internal storage further since there is no space for a microSD card slot. On the software front, the phone boots on Android 12 based on One UI 4.1.
Camera and Sound
Moving on, there is a triple camera setup on the Samsung Galaxy S22. It has a 50MP primary lens of an f/1.8 aperture, 1.0-microns pixel capacity, Dual Pixel PDAF, and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) support. Likewise, there is a 10MP telephoto sensor of an f/2.4 aperture, 1.0-microns pixel capacity, PDAF, OIS, and 3x optical zoom. Completing the setup is a 12MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture, 120-degree field of view, and 1.4-microns pixel capacity. The last one also supports Super Steady Video which is quite impressive. The module also holds the LED flash for better night shots. Further, the rear camera can record videos up to 8K at the rate of 24 frames per second with gyro-EIS support. It works with HDR10+ content and stereo sound recording.
Upfront, there is a 10MP selfie snapper with an f/2.2 aperture, 1.22-microns pixel capacity, and Dual Pixel PDAF support. This time, there is a support of Dual video calls in the device. You can record videos up to 4K at 30/60 frames per second. Furthermore, there are stereo speakers that tune 32-bit/384kHz audio. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack for calls and music.
Battery and Extras
Fueling the device is a medium Li-Ion 3,700mAh battery cell with 25W fast charging support. You can also see the USB Power Delivery 3.0, 15W Fast Qi/PMA wireless charging, and 4.5W Reverse wireless charging. The charging is done via a USB Type-C 3.2 port. Other connectivity options are Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO), and NFC.
