Honor Magic 4 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor goes official

Honor has introduced two new smartphones – Honor Magic 4 and Honor Magic 4 Pro via the MWC 2022 event. Since they are the flagship models, both feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors. Here, we will dig further into the specs, features, availability, and the expected price of Honor Magic 4 in Nepal.

Honor Magic 4 Overview

Design and Display

The Honor Magic 4 brings us a 6.81-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1000nits peak brightness. It also boasts a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut with HDR 10+ contents and a 1920Hz PWM dimming feature. There are one billion colors on the screen alongside 1224×2664-pixels resolution and 431-pixel density. Likewise, there is a center-aligned punch-hole cutout above the display.

The body weighs 199 grams and measures 8.8mm in thickness. It is IP54 rated against dust and water resistivity.  The rear panel of the phone has a circular camera cutout which Honor has referred to as the “Eye of Muse”. There are four color options available in the model – Black, White, Cyan, and Gold.

Performance and Memory

Powering the system is Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor based on a 4nm fabrication process. It integrates an octa-core (1×3.00 GHz Cortex-X2 & 3×2.40 GHz Cortex-A710 & 4×1.70 GHz Cortex-A510) CPU coupled with Adreno 730 graphics processor. Over to the software front, the phone runs on Android 12 on top of Magic UI 6. You can also see market/region-dependent support for Google Play Services.

You have four different memory configurations for the model – 8/128GB, 8/256GB, 12/256GB, and 12/512GB respectively. Unfortunately, you can no longer expand your internal storage since the handset lacks a slot for a microSD card and doesn’t support virtual RAM.

Camera and Audio

Under the hood, there is a triple camera setup with a 50MP primary lens with 1.0-microns pixel capacity and the support of multi-directional PDAF and Laser AutoFocus. The secondary lens is also a 50MP shooter but falls under the ultrawide category with a 122-degree field of view. Further, the setup is completed with an 8MP periscope telephoto sensor with PDAF and OIS support added by 5x optical zoom. These cameras show features like ultra-fusion photography, AI color, and Movie Master with IMAX Enhanced 10bit 4K video recording at 60 frames per second.

Moving on, there is a 12MP selfie snapper above the display of the handset. It is also an ultrawide lens with a 100-degree field of view. Both rear and front cameras can record videos up to 4K resolution at the rate of 30 frames per second.

For audio, there is a loudspeaker system with stereo speakers that supports 24-bit audio stereo recording. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack for music and calls.

Rest of the specs

Under the hood, the Honor Magic 4 gets its fuel from a medium Li-Po 4,800mAh battery cell with 66W fast charging capability. The device can also volunteer for a 5W reverse charging. The charging is done via a USB Type-C 3.1 port whose adapter and cable ship with the box. The phone has an under-display fingerprint sensor with a software-based face unlock on the side for biometrics.
