Nubia Red Magic 3s Launched: Pocket-Friendly Gaming Smartphone

The newcomer in Nepal, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Nubia has been launching powerful, gaming-centric handsets with it’s Red Magic series, Red Magic 3 being most popular, now they are coming with Nubia Red Magic 3s. It has been just over a year since Nubia entered the country’s market. Its high-end offerings in price much less than flagships have attracted many game-loving consumers in a short period of time.

Furthermore, its new addition, the Nubia Red Magic 3S launched recently in September is a specs-monster device. Added with features like powerful Snapdragon 855 and industry-new internal fan and liquid cooling, it is sure to shake things among game fanatics.

Overview

Red Magic 3S has a ton of features to be a complete gaming phone. It has a geometric design of the aluminium body, showing off gaming vibe with a pentagon camera, hexagon-shaped rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and an RGB led panel that can also be customized.

The display is 6.55 inches having resolution 1080×2340 pixels. The display ratio is 19.5:9 with 388 PPI. This AMOLED display coupled with a smooth 90 Hz refresh rate will assure a fluid and realistic visuals while displaying intensive frames. There is also Gorilla Glass to minimize the risk of damage due to normal drops.

Coming to the OS, we get Android 9.0 with Redmagic 2.0. Red magic is Nubia’s own overlay which incorporates custom-designed features to boost performance and enhance user experience.

As a gaming-oriented phone should have, Redmagic 3s has a beast of processor Snapdragon 855+. This octa-core processor of a 7 nm build process can run any graphic demanding game in the highest resolution. Along with Adreno 640 GPU, we can expect anything to run in absolute fluidity in the Redmagic 3s.

There are 2 variants of Red Magic 3s, starting from 8 GB RAM and 128GB storage. The higher version has 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. We don’t get a card slot for expanding the memory.

Camera

Speaking of the cameras, there is a single camera at back. While it may not sound fancy compared to “quad or triple-camera setups”, the camera is a professional one.

The 48 MP with Sony IMX 586 sensor is the same that flagships like OnePlus 7 Pro or Asus 6Z have on their back. Moreover, it also supports 8K video capture and thumping 1920fps slo-mo recording. At the front, there is a 16 MP lens with HDR.

Battery

We get a massive 5000 mAh battery in the Redmagic 3s. As usual, there is 27W Fast charging. As per Nubia’s claim, a mere 10-minute charge will be enough to play games for a whole hour.

Sound-wise, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack,  DTS XU1tra sound, and noise cancellation feature. The 4D shock feature, gaming dock pins for ethernet connection and e-Sports box are some exciting features on this phone. As there are ICE liquid cooling system and an actual fan inside, gamers also don’t have to worry about the overheating problem too.

Although Red Magic 2 and Red Magic 3 is already launched in Nepal, its elder sibling is yet to get launched in Nepal. It is available in Silver and Red/Blue colour. The base variant (6/64GB) will cost CNY 2899 (~$431). The 6/128GB, 8/128GB, and 12/512GB models have respective prices of CNY 3199 (~$475), CNY 3499 (~$520), and CNY 4299 (~$640).

OPPO Reno 2F Launched in Nepal with Motorized Pop-up Camera

The Chinese smartphone company Oppo has released the OPPO Reno 2F last week after announcing it back in August. This budget phone is a premium mid-range phone with some new and amazing features like VOOC Flash Charge, an optical in-display fingerprint, and a pop-up selfie camera

Reno 2F is another instalment to the Reno series and is a premium-feel smartphone owing to its design and specs. That is why it is tagged with quite a price for a mid-range device.

Overview

OPPO Reno 2F has a neat AMOLED display of 6.5 inches with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels. The device is protected at the front as well as back with Gorilla Glass 5, so we can expect it to handle minor drops. Also, the display is notchless, providing a clear and distraction-free experience, thanks to the inclusion of motorized pop-up for the selfie camera.

Under the hood, Reno 2F runs with Mediatek Helio P70 processor joined with Mali-G72 GPU. Both are decent in terms of performance. Running most games at medium graphics should be easy. Other regular day-to-day tasks will run smoothly.

Android Pie (9.0) is installed on the phone with OPPO’s ColorOS 6.1 with extra features customized for the model. When you can get top features with a budget phone, there is no need to spend more. Since the competition is very high among manufacturers, people have now good budget phones to choose from. Just after the launch tease of its new U-series, Vivo has officially launched the Vivo U3 in China. With great camera, ever-lasting battery and other features, this might be one of the best budget phones.

Overview

An upgraded version of the Vivo U3x(u10), the Vivo u3 boasts a slim body of 6.53-inch FHD+ screen(1080 x 2340p). It has a notched design, which includes a waterdrop notch on the top which houses the selfie camera. Owing to its design, the phone gets a large screen-to-body ratio of 90.3% so that users get a wholesome experience watching movies and inside games.

Under the hood, the Vivo u3 runs with a powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 (11nm), which is a 20% boost from its predecessor Snapdragon 665 chipset found in the u3x. This new processor means the more smooth and fluid experience for regular use as well as regular gaming and stuff. The device is available in Android 9.0 with Funtouch 9.1 overlay which has tech like “Multi-Turbo” included, and Vivo says it will boost the performance by 20%.

Vivo’s u3 is offered in two memory variants. The base version will have 4GB RAM while higher one will have 6GB. Storage is, however, the same at 64 GB. But with expandable storage(up to 256 GB), there’s plenty for everyone.

Speaking of the camera, Vivo has again shipped this phone with some great camera specs for a budget phone. There is a triple camera setup housed vertically at the back. We get a 16MP primary shooter, one 8 MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP dedicated depth sensor combo just above the fingerprint sensor. Along with a superb set up, there will be Super Night View 2.0 which will assure good quality night-time shots.

Pixel 4 and 4 XL Launched: Not for a Normal User

The successors to Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have arrived at the market. Google has showcased its two flagships smartphones, the Pixel 4 along with Pixel 4XL at the Made By Google 2019 event. While the Pixel 4 and its sibling come with several camera improvements, new secure Face Unlock feature and other wizardries. Google’s decision to solely focus on these features has left other prime areas compromised.

Let’s see what Google has to offer with Pixel 4.

Overview

The Pixel 4 and 4XL come with bezel design, replacing the notch feel from last year’s Pixel 3XL. Pixel 4 has a 5.7-inch P-OLED display with a smoother 90Hz refresh rate. The display resolution is Full HD – 1080 x 2280 pixels at 444 PPI.

The bigger brother Pixel 4XL is significantly larger at 6.3 inches display and slightly heavier too. It is a quad HD phone with 1440 x 3040 pixels at 537 PPI. There is also a feature that senses your presence if you’re near the device, which in turn enables AOD(Always on Display) on them. The display on this year’s pixels is industry standards as DisplayMate has rated an A+.

Camera

Talking about cameras, both devices have the same hardware as with most things here. There is the same 12.2 MP wide camera as in Pixel 3 but there also a 16 MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. Just like the dual rear camera, there is also a dual front camera system with one 8 MP wide lens along with a TOF 3D camera.

You can record 2160p at 30fps at the back and 1080p at 30 fps with the selfie camera. New upgrades have been made with improved HDR+ and “Astrophotography” mode, which is among Google’s own innovations.

CPU and Performance

On the inside, Pixel 4 and 4XL both are run by Octacore Snapdragon 855 coupled with Adreno 640 GPU. These commonly used flagship chipsets are designed to handle extreme loads and run games, movies, music, and everything fluently. You can expect fluid and smooth performance in whatever you run on them.

Google’s latest Android 10 is present on the phones, with no extra overlays just like their predecessors. Of the things that we don’t quite understand about the device is their storage. Pixel 4 and 4XL start from just a 64GB model. While 6GB RAM sounds good enough, even though the competitors within this price range have more to offer, just a mere 64 GB storage doesn’t fit today’s expectation. The higher versions have 128GB storage, which still feels less.

Battery

The Pixel 4’s battery also seems unenthusiastic among several other things. At just 2800 mAh, it’s far low than what its competitors pack in even medium-end devices. Surprisingly it’s even low than Pixel 3. So we can hardly muster up on what made google do this.

So for those who need more battery power in this year’s Pixel will have to go for the 4XL, which has 3700mAh battery. Added to that, the 18W charging will also be not able to charge as fast as 50W charging found in today’s flagships. There is nonetheless, Qi Wireless charging in the phones.

Colours and Availability

The devices have the same available colours; Clearly White, Just Black and Oh So Orange. It’s not yet confirmed we’ll get these phones in Nepal as there is no authorized distributor of Google in Nepal. They’ll surely be not available in India as per the report, due to issues of Motion Sense and banning of 60GHz in a spectrum band.

We are only getting Android 9.0 (Pie) with MIUI 10. Sooner or later Xiaomi might provide software updates with Android 10. As the main processor, a 12nm chipset Mediatek Helio G90T has been used which should be able to handle the performance of the device. The chipset is specialized for gaming so the gaming performance on this device should be fantastic.

The popular flagship OnePlus has recently announced its newest smartphone, the OnePlus 7T. We are getting this T variant followed by the regular OnePlus, which was launched in the mid-year.

OnePlus 7T was announced along OnePlus TV in India. You will be able to get it from September 28 while its release in the UK will only be known after we hear out the company’s plans. US users can get in on October 18.

Overview

The OnePlus 7T is an innovative device, packed with a ton of flagship features while the price being as low as half as most of those high-end devices. This phone will have more screen frequency rate(Hz) like the 7 Pro. Also, the triple camera is there to capture different picture types, from telephoto to ultrawide. While performance-wise, it is at the top as always.

One of the lightest phones around, OnePlus 7t’s 190g weight can be a plus for the device’s accessibility. It features the Fluid AMOLED capacitive touchscreen an astonishing 90 Hz display that gamers will absolutely love. CPU and Performance

The rear of this phone sees a triple camera, a 48 MP wide, 12 MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom and one 16 MP ultrawide camera. The ultrawide camera is capable of recording 4K video. The selfie camera is a wide one of 16 MP but, this time not pop-up like we have seen on OnePlus 7 Pro.

Memory and Storage

There will be two variants of OnePlus 7t. The base variant will get 128GB storage with 8GB RAM. Similarly, the upper variant will feature 256GB storage with the same memory as its little brother.

But there is no slot to expand the storage, which is not much of an issue for most users.

There is an under-display optical fingerprint sensor and gyro sensor as always along with several regular sensors. Bluetooth 5.0 is available. For charging and data transfer USB 3.1 has been provided.

Vivo S1 recently launched in Nepal. Looking after the price segment and specifications, it was quite popular. Vivo S1 is one the best Smartphone under 30000 price segments in Nepal. Initially, 6/128GB was available for Nepali market but recently they launched the 4/128GB variant too. Are there any changes in those two variants? Well, Vivo S1 4/128GB comes with the same specifications of 6/128GB.

Vivo S1 features a 6.38- inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with 83.3% screen-to-body ratio. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels giving a 404 PPI with minimum bezels and a fingerprint scanner beneath the screen. For CPU and GPU, this device is powered by Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P65 and Mali-G52 MC2 respectively. Couple that with 4/6GB RAM it can provide decent performance for day to day multitasking. But, if you are a heavy user its not your cup of tea. This device comes with 128GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB using microSD.

Moving on, Vivo S1 comes with its triple rear camera setup. The triple rear camera consists of a 16MP primary lens, an 8MP wide-angle lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. On paper, it seems pretty good. For the selfie camera, there is a 32 MP with f/2.0 aperture which can produce decent selfies as the company claims. But, can it compete with the other camera-centric smartphone like Samsung M40, Redmi Note 7 Pro etc. which have great cameras under the same price segment launched this year.

Vivo S1 in Nepal

Coming to its operating system, this phone runs on Android 9.0. You’ll have Vivo’s own Funtouch 9 over the OS which is customizable with exquisite simplicity. The software also offers dark mode, smart launcher, smart scan etc. To power this device, you get robust 4500 mAh battery which can be quickly juiced up as it supports 18W fast charging. But, despite its price segment and all those features, it lacks USB Type-C which is a bit of a disappointment.

Pricing and Availability

Vivo S1 is available in Diamond Black, Skyline Blue, Cosmic Green. But, for Nepal only Diamond Black and Skyline Blue are available. Vivo has offered Rs. 31,490 for Vivo S1 4/128GB variant whereas for Vivo S1 6/128GB variant Rs. 34,690 is offered. But, we cannot confirm whether it’s capable to compute with other devices under the same price segments.
